Waves of Grief

It has been a little more than a year since my mom died on April 21, 2011. When her birthday rolled around for the second time this past August 5th my reaction took me by complete surprise. I had been focusing on the upcoming date of August 10th, knowing that this year would mark the one-year anniversary since we spread her ashes.

Vision Board Success

In January 2011, as I created my vision board, I thought about what I wanted to manifest in the upcoming year. One thing we desperately needed was a new couch! I came across a picture of a beautiful one sitting in sand. It spoke to me and just had to go on my board, not knowing exactly why. After all, we'd never owned a couch that looked like that before!

New Beginnings

This October I will become a grandmother for the very first time. I am excited and so ready for this new phase of my life. Many who know me well have heard me say for quite a while that I could hardly wait to have grandchildren. That long-awaited dream is now becoming a reality.

With the loss of my mother last year, I know that this is how life works. Something ends and something new begins. It doesn’t always happen quite so distinctly, as with my mother’s death and the impending birth of my first grandchild, but as living beings, we are constantly experiencing change and transition, endings and new beginnings.

Life Goes On - Riding the Ups and Downs

This summer has been an incredible rollercoaster ride of ups and downs, twists and turns. A snapshot of what life is truly all about. And a reminder of what’s truly important—my family and my approach to life. I realize above all else, that my loved ones are what counts most of all. Grieving What Could Have Been

My son Matt has been clean and sober for over five months now. What an amazing accomplishment this has been! And how wonderful for his dad and me to see him engaging once again in life. I see the possibility and promise of all that he is moving towards.

Finding Balance in Life

“I need to find more balance in my life.” “My life is so out of balance right now!” How often have you made statements such as these? Especially when we feel pressured by deadlines, pulled apart by multiple demands, and tugged at by our own need to “hear ourselves think” we can really start to feel off and on the brink of complete craziness. That’s when we tell our friends that we just need to find some balance or we need to get away for a while to gain some perspective. The issue is that balance doesn’t always look like balance.

Fall is Underway!

It’s official! Fall is underway. Not only does the calendar tell us so, but the weather is most definitely changing. And have you noticed how dark it is in the early morning and how night is beginning to come on sooner too?

Fall is such a beautiful time of year, with all the changing colors, yet for many, it is one of the most difficult seasons to live through. I am one of those people—I call it experiencing the “fall dip.” Although I love the cool, crisp days, I know that it’s time to say goodbye to summer. It’s time to hang up my bicycle until next year, to put the shorts and sleeveless tops away along with my sandals. It’s time to pull out the long pants, sweaters, and boots because winter is on its way. It’s time to say goodbye to the outdoors. At least in part, because I know I’ll be spending more time indoors.

Are you on OVERLOAD?

Deb Roffe Featured in Scrubs Magazine!

I am pleased to share with you my article titled ARE YOU ON OVERLOAD? that is featured in the Winter 2011 Scrubs Magazine.  The article is based on my Crossing the Bridge from Burnout Out to Bliss Workshop: The 6 Steps to Creating a Blissful Life.  Here is a brief except from the beginning of the article...

"I WENT TO WORK EVERY DAY FOR 20 YEARS knowing all too well the meaning of "nurse stress." It wasn't too long ago that I was working 10-hour shifts in a G.I. lab assisting with colonoscopies and upper endoscopies in a windowless room. I had one doctor, a sedated patient and a continuously beeping heart monitor to keep me company. Eventually I sought out a life coach to help me make sense of my situation. With her support, I realized that my position didn't suit my natural knack for listening to people and solving their problems. I got up the courage to become a life coach myself, helping other nurses in the Denver area de-stress and find balance in their lives, just as someone else had done for me."
